Valentine’s Day is not all about red roses, heart shaped gifts, chocolates and candle light dinner dates. The ultra successful millennial consumers are driving some interesting and unique trends that are worth watching out.
Much beyond candy hearts!
Though candies and chocolates are still high on the shopper’s list, millennials are spinning some interesting new ways to celebrate love in the air. Marketers can heed to these hints to connect with this booming crowd
Here are some of the shopping trends of the young consumers for Valentine’s Day.
V-Day is a perfect time to Pamper their pets!
Reports of the American Pet Products Association suggest that millennials account for more than a third of all pet owners in the United States! Younger consumers make proud pet parents and on Valentine’s Day they will try to get the best gifts for their furry friends.
In 2020, it is expected that over a quarter of those under the age of 35 may buy Valentine’s Day gifts for their pets; they will also have a higher budget than shoppers of the other age bracket. From pillows to heart-shaped treats, safety pet lights, pet food and dog bones– the pet handouts list is truly interesting. Even online retailers like Amazon have come up with dedicated Valentine’s Day gift guides for both pets and their owners.
Younger consumers have a serious sweet tooth
Though the generation Z is highly health conscious and follow wellness trends religiously they have a serious sugar craving as well. Did you know that 69% of consumers aged 18 to 24 may choose candy as their Valentine’s Day gift?
The younger audience prefers sweet delights that are not just tasty but have elegant wrappers that look good and are instagram worthy. Nestle, Dunkin’ Donuts and many other brands are introducing special Valentine’s Day chocolates to satiate the sugar cravings of their young customers.
Relax and wind down
A majority of millennials consider having some quality “Me time” as important as a date night! It is a perfect time to indulge in self care, home spa and beauty treatments for most young consumers.
Picking on the trends, we are likely to see many cosmetics brands, salons, bath and body products and spas to come up with exciting discounts and offers to engage their younger customers. Marketers planning to promote their products can think of custom products like aromatherapy kits, scented candles or towels to complement the celebration theme.
Valentine’s Day has evolved to be of importance not just for the loving hearts and couples but for the retailers and businesses as well.
