Kids are back in school; and it is also the time when most parents get anxious about a million odd errands and fine hone their multi tasking skills. From shopping for school supplies to getting the school lunch menu ready, their hands are literally full.
Here are some tips to the parents of first time school going kids that will make it easy to plan and get over this phase effectively
Set up a bedtime: Sufficient sleep is essential for the kids to wake up well rested and stay active in class. It is recommended to set up new bedtimes and wake-up times 1-2 weeks before the kids’ first day in school. It will make it easy for them to stick to the new routine easily once the classes begin.
Organize clothing: Make sure to get the uniform stitched well on time. If you are using those from previous year, see whether these fit the kids correctly. Accordingly you can draw up the shopping list and decide on the items you need to buy before school begins.
Plan healthy lunches and snacks. The biggest challenge for parents is to make the kids eat what they carry in their lunch boxes. Kids are finicky eaters and it takes a lot of clever tricks and creativity to make them eat a balanced meal. Pack in attractive lunch boxes like Three Compartment Food Storage Bento Boxes, include colorful fruits and vegetables cut into fun shapes and add wholesome snacks that will keep the kids on their toes throughout the day. This will also set a great example for a healthy lifestyle for the kids.
Talk to your kids about bullying. Bullying is a harsh reality that parents have to cope up with during their kids schooling. Reports show that 33% of kids get bullied at some point throughout their years of school. Make them understand of bullying in a simple way with coloring books and story books that will help them deal with it and seek parental help.
Update medical records. The current shot records and a list of any other medical conditions or food allergies should be provided to the teachers. Keep the emergency contact numbers up-to-date so they can easily reach you in case of a necessity.
Set up a school area at home: Reserve a room or a space to keep everything related to school, including backpacks, lunch boxes, uniforms, writing supplies and more. It will make it easy to find school items easily and keep it ready on the previous day itself.
Keep School calendars in plain view: Make sure that you have the school calendar magnets right in your eye span to keep a track of activities, open houses, sports days and more.
