Halloween Spending 2022- Retail Trends

According to the reports of National Retail Federation, Halloween 2022 is likely to be a great season for retailers . It is estimated that nearly 7 in 10 consumers are planning to celebrate Halloween this year. Consumers are likely to spend $10.6 billion on Halloween this year, up from $10.1 billion last year.
In 2022, Halloween spending on costumes, decorations and candy is likely to reach a new high.
Here are the top Halloween items that the consumers are likely to shop for.
- 67% of consumers plan to buy candy while 51 % of people may buy Halloween themed outdoor decorations.
- Halloween costumes will get 47% of consumers to spend on, while 44% consumers spend on the favorite Halloween activity of pumpkin carving.
- 28% of consumers will be attending or hosting a party whereas one in five consumers plan to dress up their pets in a costume.
The Halloween festivities and participation is all set to reach a record high this year after the pandemic slow down. A consumer’s average spending on Halloween items is likely to be $100 for Halloween candy, decorations and more.
Trending costume themes
Costume spending is projected to hit $2.9 billion, the highest total since 2017 is right on top of the chart. Pet costume spending too is likely to set a new record this year.
As far as the trending costume ideas are concerned, most consumers will get inspiration for their Halloween costumes online. About a quarter of consumers may look for ideas from retail stores whereas 19% may get inspiration from family and friends. 47 % of consumers shopped for Halloween as early as in September.
- The top ranking costume theme for children this year is that of Spiderman as more than 2.2 million children are dressing up as Spiderman.
- 1.9 million children may dress up as their favorite princess. Witch and ghosts are also popular costume ideas .
- 1.2 million children plan to don the costumes of Batman and other superheroes.
- More than 5.3 million adults plan to dress like a witch. Th other popular costume themes include vampire. ghost and pirates .
Costume ideas for pets
Some of the most popular costumes for pets include pumpkin. 9% of pet lovers will dress up their pets as Pumpkins. Other costume ideas for pets include hot dog, bat, bumble bee and witch.
Discount stores remain popular
NRF reports highlight the fact that 40% of respondents are likely to buy their items at discount stores. 36% will shop with specialty Halloween or costume stores whereas 31% will shop online for Halloween items.
As the shopping patterns are returning to the pre-pandemic levels, retailers are leaving nothing to chance in stocking up the most trending Halloween items to help the consumers to make it a memorable affair.
